Sentient stars – cool!
After Sergeant Jack Morita stands up to a pompous research scientist, he finds himself discharged from Ganymede’s Marines and out of work, scrambling to support his wife and ailing young son. When he’s handed a new position guarding a top astrophysicist rumored to be losing her mind, things really start to get weird.
This quirky short story grabbed my attention from the get go and ended up giving me something quite interesting. I was quickly drawn to Jack, a humble man who possesses common sense, a rare streak of ethics, and a big heart, noble attributes that lead him to a major breakthrough. For me, it was both surprising and gratifying to watch a military man rise to meet the bizarre events challenging the entire solar system and ultimately open himself to connections and answers beyond the comprehension of the scientific elite. Three cheers, Jack!
If you enjoy good scifi yarns with likable characters, good writing, and imaginative twists, then pick up this short story and dig in. It’s an easy, satisfying read. The personality behind the strange occurrences is definitely worth discovering.
