Review: Humans and other Aliens, Book 1

Author: Alexander Winzer
Amazon Author Page
Goodreads Author Page
Genre: Dharma Science Fiction

This undiscovered gem is an unusual, completely fresh, and unique blend of scifi/tech elements with metaphysical concepts. The writing is intelligent, fluid, and clear, with a hard-hitting, well-crafted plot and engaging dialog.

Initially I was drawn by the title of the book and what it implies about humans, and ended up quite pleased by the author’s out-of-the-box perspective. If you consider humanity to be some sort of pinnacle in evolution or you believe killing the bad, non-human monsters is the best solution to a threat, then this book won’t be for you. If you resonate with the proposition that humanity is appallingly disconnected from the earth and that our planet just might view us as a bad infection, then you may very well be intrigued by the horrific dilemma set up in this story as well as the dynamic thinking and actions of the characters.

Like many other scifi stories, the people of earth are thrown into a crisis by invading aliens and it is up to a small band of scientific types to find a remedy before humans are wiped out. With the awakening of Delta, a human/alien hybrid (my favorite character), the story rapidly spins into territory quite remarkable and unexpected.

I, for one, was thrilled to see that love, bonded couples, and a lack of fear play major roles in meeting the violent and terrifying threat to humanity. Bravo, Herr Winzer! The last part of the solution discussed near the end of the book promises interesting developments in the second half of the story, Humans and other Aliens, Book 2. If you are a reader who prefers all threads to be tied up by the end of your reading experience, then buy both books together from the outset.

Erin MacMichael is a visionary science fiction author and artist, creator of the T'nari Renegades series of novellas, novels, covers, and artwork. Her lifelong quest has been to explore past the boundaries of conventional thinking and figure out what really has transpired on this planet. She has traveled extensively throughout the world and lives in the Pacific Northwest with her marvelous offspring.
