The Lost Book of Enki: Memoirs and Prophecies of an Extraterrestrial God
Author: Zecharia Sitchin
Website: http://www.sitchin.com/
Category: Ancient texts / Anunnaki gods
Zecharia Sitchin’s work makes me think and this book was no exception.* Assembled from Sumerian clay tablets and told from the point of view of a scribe taking down the “great god Enki’s” reflections, the text flows and reads like a long, epic ballad. It was an eye-opening account of what the ruling family and noble elite from Nibiru were supposedly capable of and what they did here.
As fascinating as it was, the book left me with numerous questions. If Sitchin were still alive, I’d want to ask him more about the tablets he translated. Did the story come from numerous sources? Is the text a direct, exact translation from Sumerian clay tablets or were parts embellished by the author?
If indeed Sitchin’s text is a meticulous translation, then my questions shift to Enki himself. What exactly does the “great god” or his followers want us to think about him? He is painted as a licentious, but well-meaning, creator and savior of mankind. He and his family are portrayed as rather down to earth, human-type beings whose self-serving agenda spawned a slave race through genetic manipulation and who eventually attempted to wipe them out. The flood is blamed on the breakdown of polar ice and the use of nuclear weapons in the Middle East is attributed to Enki’s warring offspring. In each case, Enki claims that he saved a handful of his own human descendants out of the goodness of his heart. Hmmmm….
It was an interesting read, adding to the picture of who the Annunaki may have been at one time and hinting at the technology they may have employed. It also gave quite a glimpse into how an atrociously arrogant group of beings viewed themselves, perhaps the greatest takeaway from reading this work. I certainly can’t buy into Enki’s caring father figure shtick that the original Sumerian authors of the tablets were apparently spoon fed.
If you share my interest in unraveling the warped and weird real history of humanity and its gods, then this piece of Sitchin’s work is definitely worth your time.
*Ready my write-up of Sitchin’s work here.
