Review: When Stars and Worlds Collide, Short Story
Imaginative world-building.
This touching story about a mother’s love is more than a little unique. I was quickly drawn into the very unusual world of Adiranya where Mahktlin, a fur-clad native married to a human, is grieving for her son who is trapped in an addictive other dimension. Mahktlin approaches an Aut, an emotionless human who is capable of walking the Line between dimensions, with a message for her son. When the Aut proposes a deal to bring her son home, Mahktlin is faced with a difficult choice, for the beings of Adiranya possess a valuable asset that the Aut desperately seeks.
The premise of the story is intriguing and the execution is flawless, highly imaginative, and told from multiple points of view. Good, mature writing and well-sculpted characters. I would love to see the author delve deeper into the strange worlds touched by the Line.
