Review: The Guardians
Author: Don Viecelli
Website: https://donviecelli.weebly.com/
Genre: Science Fiction
This contemporary science fiction adventure is an interesting blend of current science and military hardware with speculative elements of alien races and genetically enhanced humans from the past.
Personally, I’m not in the camp that considers NASA or the U.S. President and military “good guys,” so it was necessary for me to suspend my own perspective in order to enjoy the book. I’m glad I did because I discovered some imaginative concepts and characters woven into the alien invasion storyline.
The book launches with an assault on Earth by an alien drone which sets off a nanobot infestation all over the globe intended to clear the planet of life. The descriptions of the rapidly expanding dead zones are chillingly well done. Behind the attack are the aggressive Tyrax reptilians from a small galaxy colliding with ours who care only about taking over the planet as part of their designs for survival.
Interestingly, a hidden chamber is discovered beneath Sacsayhuaman in Peru which leads to contact with a benevolent alien from a group fighting the Tyrax who call themselves “the Guardians.” A small team of NASA scientists and U.S. military officers come together in a mission to reach the Guardianship hidden within the solar system where they hope to discover the keys for countering the deadly infestation.
The premise of humanity becoming embroiled in a long-standing galactic war is intriguing. I enjoyed this first book of the series and look forward to seeing how the human characters develop in the rest of the series.
Erin MacMichael is a visionary science fiction author and artist, creator of the T'nari Renegades series of novellas, novels, covers, and artwork. Her lifelong quest has been to explore past the boundaries of conventional thinking and figure out what really has transpired on this planet. She has traveled extensively throughout the world and lives in the Pacific Northwest with her marvelous offspring.
