Review: A Walk Between Stars
Wow, what a ride!
The spirit and bounce of this book caught me quite by surprise. I LOVE finds like this.
The story catapults into action on page one. After his ship explodes, Roman Briggs finds himself alone and stranded in space until he is rescued by a ship of bug-like Manti. Because of different metabolic needs, he is forced to remain outside the hull until they can rendezvous with other humans. Briggs cheerfully adapts and makes friends with one of his caretakers, but when he witnesses an act of violence through one of the portholes, he is sucked into a tense drama with the alien Manti.
If I find myself smiling unconsciously while reading, I know I’ve found a jewel. Not only does this story get a gold star for originality, it was exceedingly well executed, a pleasure to read. The twists of the plot move at a good pace, the characters are funny and likeable, and the alien culture is fascinating. Scifi thriller? Yes, but ultimately it is a touching story of honor and friendship.
Sadly, this seems to be the only publication available from this author. Based on the superb quality of this novella, I would love to see more from him in the future!
